M.O.C Dannie Danso Pens A Tribute to KODA

I affectionately called him “Bishop”, reflecting the deep respect I held for him as a senior minister in the music ministry and also for his determination to address critical issues in the body of Christ with his music. My admiration for him stemmed from my extensive experience as a worship missionary who traveled across Ghana and Africa, and the impact KODA’s ministry had made in some of the remote areas. “Bishop” KODA’s name resonated widely in the places I visited, including a memorable encounter with a church in The Gambia (in October 2019), who expressed their longing to have him visit.

Though I had heard of KODA, we had not met in person until 2014 when I had the opportunity to be on the same bill with him for a project in Kumasi.

It was an awesome experience meeting him in person and from that day, our bond of friendship strengthened, leading to a collaboration in 2019 on a single music track I had always envisioned, to have him featured in it. I greatly admired his skill in playing the lead guitar and singing alongside, which inspired me to learn the acoustic guitar.

During my visit to “Bishop” KODA’s studio in Takoradi, he was incredibly welcoming , warm and friendly; making me feel at home. In my presence, he asked for my YouTube details and made time to listen to all the songs I had composed and uploaded on my channel. I still recall his words: “Osofo, you have great songs, and I think the production could be improved. Your engineers often do too much instead of keeping it simple.” This was a valuable learning experience for me.

One thing I can attest to is that KODA had a heart for helping talents. He was truly a great minister.

“Bishop” KODA’s focus and attention to our new project was inspiring, igniting a sense of excitement for the next phase of my music career. Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated challenges, which impacted our traveling schedules, “Bishop” KODA still found a way to make the project a success. He made arrangements with a skilled vessel, Nsanku Pekay, to collaborate remotely for the lead vocal works. Despite the challenges, we were able to release the song titled “No Other Name” by MOC, featuring Koda, on March 23, 2021, with it distributed by Apprise Music. The release marked a significant milestone in my career and a tribute to his enduring legacy.

I received the news of Bishop KODA’s passing on April 21, 2024. This was during rehearsals for an upcoming event. It left me devastated and affected the rehearsals that day as I tried to confirm the news with those close to him. Despite my efforts to reach individuals like Rev. Nii Okai, Ps. Zuta, Joe Mettle, and Ps. Joe Beecham, I received no response until TeeJay of Stars TV confirmed the sad news.

This loss is deeply painful. We had been eagerly anticipating the official music video shoot and other exciting plans, but now Bishop KODA is no longer with us. I ask, “LORD WHY?” As we mourn his passing, I find solace in our shared memories and the lasting impact he made on our hearts.

Death has taken a treasure from us. Rest well, Bishop KODA, rest well. Your spirit lives on in the melodies you bestowed upon us, guiding us through the echoes of your music. Till we meet again. Dwe me fa dwe.”
