I’m not a regular social media poster. Most of the time when I share, it’s through music videos. 🎶 But I’ve decided it’s time to add another layer—sharing more of my thoughts, stories, and lessons in words.
This is a new journey for me, and I want to begin with this experience…
Not long ago, I met an old classmate who told me something that really struck me. She said on one of their group pages, my name came up, and someone remarked:
“Barima, after covering his work and always trying attain the first position in class throughout primary school and JSS, now he’s just a bass guitar player.”
That comment made me pause. It reminded me of how musicians and instrumentalists are often stereotyped as “unsuccessful” or “unserious” people in life. And while it sounds harsh, I realized you can’t completely blame society—because many times, musicians themselves don’t show the world the other dimensions of who they are.
But here’s my truth: I am not “just a bass guitar player.” 🎸 Music is my passion, yes, but it is not my limitation. Alongside my music, I have pursued academics, built a professional career as a lecturer and researcher, mentored others, and contributed to national projects. Music gave me discipline, creativity, and resilience—but I also made sure to add extra value to my life.
👉 To my fellow musicians and instrume
ntalists—don’t allow stereotypes to define you. Your talent is beautiful, but let it be a foundation, not a ceiling. Explore, learn, grow, and build something more. Let music be part of your story, not the whole story.

So today, I reintroduce myself:
I am Okyere Anim Barima (PhD) — a proud musician 🎶, a lecturer, a researcher, a career counselor, and a mentor.
Music is part of me, but it is not all of me. And it shouldn’t be all of you either. 💡
From now on, expect to see me here more often—not just in videos, but also through stories, reflections, and even mentorship lessons I’ve picked up along the way. This is only the beginning. 🚀
