Evangeline Gbenartey: The Day I Meant To Sin

The day I meant to sin paaahn eh, everything went against me. I had it all planned in my head. Three candidates were slated. If ‘a’ failed, I would move to ‘b’ and finally ‘c’ my last choice; obviously not my most preferred.

So what’s with ‘a’? His fine build and sharp cuts should come in handy. I met him on my early morning run. He had been hounding me for a while. “Come and visit, come today, come tomorrow , Just let me know ..” You catch that drift? So, on this day of revenge (yes, all this was to prove that if good is nothing, then bad is nothing!) I sent a simple text ‘are you home?’ to ‘a’ and quickly hit the shower. I came out, found a pair of hot skimpy shorts, tied my hair with a scarf and moved my car.

Just when I moved out, I checked my phone for the response from ‘a’ and there was nothing. Oh! In fact he had not so much as read my message. Mtscheeew…guy woyi paaaahn..

I just heard ‘teller 2’(in the hellish bank lady’s voice) in my head and decided to move towards ‘b’. But the challenge with ‘b’ is that, he hadn’t directly invited me over. I have always known what a cool dude he is and we have sometimes shared an awkward moment. But this time round, what was I going to say? Showing up at his house unannounced, dressed like a harmless seducer? As if all these were not enough, the lights suddenly went out! Oh! Ghana! This national artillery of ‘dumsor’ did not deter me. I still drove slowly and parked outside ‘b’s house. The lights were still out. What on earth was I on about?

In fact at this juncture, the fierce battle going on was obvious and my angel was screaming ‘no! Not today! No! No!! No!!! So although nothing happened, I am still very ashamed of myself and my evil plans. I decided to abort the plans go back home.

Anuanom, God loves us so much. A whole lot goes on before a deadly sin is sealed. It is called ‘the way out’ in the scriptures.

1 Corinthians 10:13 says “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

I know we hate to admit it, but we all know that ‘3hc no’ moment. ‘3hc no’ is the part of the account where everyone knows it’s the deal breaker! We can be faithless but God is and remains faithful, so when he comes through for us and provides the ‘way out’ like that, we must not shame him before the enemy. We must seize the way out and make away, like the last minute escapes in the movies the heroes do.

I know it gets tough many times. Especially for those of us ‘goody two shoesers’. We end up making stupid mistakes that cancel out our years of hardwork and commitment. As much as possible. Always win this battle by repeating the scriptures to yourself.

Disclaimer: All sin is sin. Not only sexual sins count as sin.

    God bless you.
