The Rip-Off Sessions is a musicians conference started in 2010 by maestro drummer and music producer, Jay Mera – for musicians (drummers, bass players, keys players, guitar players and anyone with love for musicianship).
It is the platform that educates, teaches, inspires and discovers talents.
The term RIP-OFF, was adopted to describe the art of extracting VALUE for far less than its original worth. In this case, the audience is doing the ripping-off, because with a small token, the amount of information, value and opportunities that would be gotten from The Rip-Off Sessions is unbelievably dumbfounding.
There have been 4 very successful editions of The Rip-Off Sessions hosted so far, from 2010 to 2013.
According to Jay Mera, The Rip-Off Sessions started the movement that literally catalyzed the rise of various music seminars that came up during that season.
Rip-Off Sessions has featured many great drummers and instrumentalists. Among those who have been featured are;
- Superstar Drummer and music producer Francis Kweku Osei (with the Legendary Kojo Antwi and many others – who has been on all editions of Rip Off Sessions).
- Emmanuel ‘JR’ Bludo (Drummer/Producer with Joe Mettle, Diana Hamilton and more)
- David Okai (Drummer/Producer for the late Great, Danny Nettey and many others)
- Amos PaaKojo PaaKonduah (Contemporary Drumming Legend/Drummer with Joyful away Inc.)
And many more…
After the 2013 edition, Jay put it on hold, in order to support the many young drummers who began similar events.
It is very evident TODAY that many drummers (and musicians) in Ghana who are now playing for artistes and playing on many records today, were born, discovered and ushered into the lime light, through their time at The Rip-Off Sessions.
Many more are about to be unleashed.
Finally by God’s grace – after a lot of praying, thinking and strategizing – Jay Mera has decided to bring back the Rip Off Sessions.
He has a tight line up for this year’s edition dubbed #RipOffVLiveSessions
They are;
