AbenaKay shares a story about her dream to be a show host.

At the end of this story, all I need you to know is that, the baby steps you are taking now, will take you to your destination someday. Just, keep moving. The start of everything is mostly the hardest.

In 2015, my friend Okatakyie Solomon Atta Ampomah, called me to come and take pictures for him for an online radio his Elder brother Reginald Goff Ampomah was setting up. Growing up, I’ve always wanted to be either a TV or Radio Personality. So when my friend called on me, then, I was in Media College.

I knew I was going to be on Radio someday. I just didn’t know when. I knew I was nowhere close to my dream. But I took the “Face of an Online Radio” as a big chance ! So, without thinking of charges or whatever, I showed up at UEW-K. And with no makeup, just my own simple outfit from the house, I was given Headphones, and asked to pose..!

Guess what? It was my first time ever wearing a Headphone! Boy was I excited? I wasn’t even directed on how to pose. I just had to picture me, sitting behind a console and then the poses just began to set in. Even without makeup, the photos came out so well. When I saw the photos, I kept asking God to make my dream, come true.

Fast forward to 2022, I am living my Radio dream. Not just living it, but working with a station I have loved and admired for so many years Y1025FM #yfmkumasi! Am I content? Not yet! Even the sea wants more water, so I want to go farther and farther. But I am grateful.! Yes! So grateful that all these years, I didn’t give up.

I’ve been through a lot. Working for some stations that didn’t even consider me worth paying and so many emotional traumas. But I’m glad I’m alive to see my dreams, gradually manifest. Someday, I pray my son RYAN and I drive past me on billboards and he screams “Mummy, that’s you”. Or have his mates tell him we saw your mom on TV. But until then, I’m grateful and thankful to God.
