Joe Mettle Wins VGMA 23 Best Gospel Artiste Of The Year
Congratulations to Joe Mettle for winning BEST GOSPEL ARTISTE OF THE YEAR Award in the 23rd edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA 23).
He shared this category with the likes of VGMA22 Artiste of the year winner, Diana Hamilton, Obaapa Christy, Celestine Donkor, MOGMusic, Empress Gifty, Ohemaa Mercy (she won BEST GOSPEL SONG OF THE YEAR, Ote Me Mu featuring MOGMusic) and Akesse Brempong.
At the time Frankie 5 mentioned him as the winner, he was backstage preparing for his performance. Luigi Maclean rushed up to take it for him but then again, he was able to reach the stage and received it and gave his acceptance speech before returning to prepare for his performance.

In the last 6 years, it has been a tag-you’re-it between Joe Mettle and Diana Hamilton. Nii Noi, Gospel pundit, member of “The Table Of Men”, host of the Christian Entertainment Review and manager of Akesse Brempong shared a post on his Facebook timeline that listed the winners for the past 10 years.
Joe Mettle was the first gospel artiste to win the VGMA ARTISTE OF THE YEAR in 2017. That year, He won the Artiste of the Year, Gospel Artiste of the Year and the Male Vocalist Artiste of the Year and this was a victory for Gospel and opened the flood gates for many other wins for gospel thereafter.
Diana Hamilton became the first woman to win that very most coveted award in the scheme in 2021.
The VGMA is the biggest award scheme organized by Charter House annually to appreciate Ghanaian artistes in the entertainment industry for their hard work in churning out great music in their respective genres. Vodaphone is the title sponsor of this event.
Many Ghanaian artistes file their nominations for the work they have done in the year under review and some of them make the list. When the period of voting ends, the awards night date is announced and the nominees, the media, and patrons turn out in style for this event.
The red-carpet event is not a small joke as various designers show their best work via the guests who grace the event with their presence.
Joe Mettle graced the red carpet with his usual JayRay Fashion out fit with a Chaste footwear. He has been loyal to these two brands.

Joe Mettle started his music career actively and became known officially in 2011 and has worked hard since then to make a name for himself and to win souls for Christ as well. His efforts have been recognized and awarded by many as he made history by becoming the first Gospel musician to win the artist of the year award in 2017 at the Ghana Music Award, now Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). Amazingly, since 2015, Joe Mettle has been on the nominee list of the VGMA and he has carried almost all awards he had been nominated for, (Gospel Artiste of the year and vocal performance of the year in 2015, Male vocalist of the year, artiste of the year and Gospel artiste of the year in 2017, Gospel song of the year, Gospel artiste of the year, Male vocalist of the year and Album of the year in 2020, Male vocalist of the year in 2021) and 2022 was no exception at all as he bagged the Best Gospel Artiste of the year.

Following his award, he gave Ghana a great performance; a rendition of his spiritual and inspirational song “YE OBUA MI” together with Niella (who also won the Female vocal performance of the year) at the Grand Arena, Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on 6th April, 2022. Many still wonder who Joe Mettle is. Well let us help you answer the WHO IS JOE METTLE? question.
Joseph Oscar Nii Armah Mettle (aka Joe Mettle) was born on the 5th July to Florence Addo and Emmanuel Mettle and he is the eldest of six children. He had his basic education at Kade and Richard Akwei primary schools, his junior high education at Korle Gonno 3 JHS, his secondary education at Accra Academy and his tertiary education at Pentecost University college located at Sowotuom in Greater Accra.
On the13th and 15th of August 2020, Min. Joe got engaged and married respectively to Salomey Selassie Dzisa in Accra and Tema respectively. They were blessed with a beautiful baby girl which they outdoored on 29th January, 2022 and named Ariana Mettle.
Musically, he started as a backing vocalist as usual for some great gospel arts such as, Reverend Tom Bright Davies, Cindy Thompson, the late Danny Nartey. He was a member of Soul Winners as was their lead singer. Joe Mettle has a lot of songs to his credit; “Ye Obua Mi”, “Everything”, “Medo Wo”, “Mensuro”, “Onwanwani”, “Turning around”, “Akokyem Nyame”, “Nhyira”, “Yesu Adi Nkunim”, “Mehia Wo Yesu”, just to mention a few. Joe Mettle ministries was founded by him in 2017. He is also the manager for Reverb Studios; a recording and rehearsal studio in Accra.
He is the convener of the annual musical concert, PRAISE RELOADED. This year he celebrates the 10th year anniversary of Praise Reloaded with the theme THE KADOSH. He is embarking on a 4-region tour starting in Takoradi on the 15th of May 2022. Check poster for details.
Joe mettle has been internationally recognized, especially in the US, UK and South Africa. He really deserves his award at the VGMA’22 and we say a big Congratulations to him and his management for a job well done and their consistency in striving for excellence. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.
