Braa Kwaku drops a letter: TO MY PAPAs – CHURCH LEADERSHIP [Especially our dear Apostles, Pastors, etc] THE CHURCH OF PENTECOST worldwide!
Dear Sir, I pray that this letter find you well😊🙌🏾
Typically, I would say, Ɔdom ne asumdwie a efri yɛn Agya Onyankopɔn, Ɔba ne Sunsum Kronkron nka yɛn nyinaa.
Over the weekend, I was hosted by one of our church choirs, The New Song also known here-forth as #TNS of PIWC Odorkor together with other seasoned gospel ministers at their annual Worship Concert dubbed #KARA – they were celebrating 10 years of hosting this event!
For the purposes of examples, I will cite #TNS in many of my references. Now, as the events unfolded last Sunday, I couldn’t help but praise God profusely for the immense success of the event but my other self who lives in my brain was also quick to remind me that, success does not happen to people out of the blues and that SUCCESS is a culmination of many elements (hard work, consistency, diligence, etc) and by these mentions I mean prayers, rehearsals to continuously build capacity, and all the ‘koomininis’ that come with it.
Success does not rest on its oars so permit me to say, more room for improvement but I can also dare say that #TNS have distinguished themselves creditably well and easily stand out as the BEST CHOIR IN THE CHURCH OF PENTECOST!
Ordinarily, for a church choir in COP, you wouldn’t imagine them hosting a programme outside the confines of their church premises and in no less a place than the very National Theatre of the nation. I say so because I know COP leadership is quite conservative on some of these moves. I don’t know for certain but I can speculate that, that decision alone wouldn’t come easy – but eventually it paid off!
By the numbers and diverse pull of audience that thronged the National Theatre – I even saw few white men/women in the audience. Maybe it is about time we consider doing some of our big events outside our comfort zones. WE WANT TO POSSESS THE NATIONS. The nations will come to us but we must bait them!
The whole KARA concert by #TNS was spearheaded and led by my very own brother Clifford Kwabena Darko ably supported by another brother Mart Gyim and their other lieutenants Alor Franklin Elizabeth Abbey, Lesley Osei and the others. I am not writing to sing his praises because he has been a brother over these years but this is a man who has proven his mettle through the years! Clifford has done extremely well and has become A STATEMENT in the corridors of the gospel fraternity when it comes to EVENT ORGANIZING. From organizing #GPraiz in Prempeh College to handling some of our top notch events in past years through his events organization Imperial Motive (I salute you Franklin Hushie II, Nii Noi and Kojo Holic).
The life of Clifford is EVENTS! He thrives and only comes alive when he is occupied with EVENTS! It’s either his church choir or #VoiceOfPentecost or #EmPraise or someone’s event. He is always about EVENTS!
At this point, I want to acknowledge the resident minister of PIWC Odorkor and previous ministers same for trusting and giving him freedom to lead this course! Here is where sometimes our PAPAs fail!! Unfortunate to say but please our Papas – Area Heads, Pastors, sometimes presiding elders can FRUSTRATE YOUUUUUUU😫😫😫😫🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I am sure there are a lot of Cliffords in our local churches – youthful, exuberant and poised to do something but for your Area Head/Pastor to trust you paa and give you the freedom to do…?????? They will change the date of your event and go back and forth with you till you give up.
They will query your budget saaa till you give up! They will sometimes even ‘take the thing from your hands’ on the premise that you are young and cannot do it and give it to some ‘olumaen’ who will drag his feet saa till you give up!!!
I don’t mean in any way to demean the WISDOM of the older generation – But Apostle Chair once said in his sermon, “The challenges of today’s generation will be solved by the people in today’s generation” – paraphrased. I feel strongly that, many church leaders have dimmed the fire/exuberance of their church (youth especially) with this kind of attitude. Back in the days, STUDENTS were organizing ITI PENSA Conferences. Trust me!!! Some of the best PENSA Conferences I ever attended were organized by STUDENTS!! STUDENTS. Not pastors or apostles oo. STUDENTS!
#Dunamis in Tech, Kumasi led by now Pastor Kingsley Addai and ITI 2010 (the one then Pastor, now Chairman Apostle Eric Nyamekye was main speaker) led by now Pastor Emmanuel Antwi Boasiako are glaring examples!
Even the boldness of these students to dare make a “pastor” the main speaker of a conference of such magnitude was a deviation from the norm. I can only imagine the ‘heckling’ that would come with such a decision. I am sure the students stood their grounds and were able to convince LEADERSHIP and did it pay of! Boy😳🙌🏾🙌🏾 The students did everything oo – from the prayer tower, food committee, protocol, sponsorship, room allocation, technical/music, transport – EVERYTHING! Students handled everything and oh mine! They Delivered spot on like a dot.
Dear PAPAs, The youth can do it oo! You will be surprised if you let them! Many of our #CLIFFORDS have been shut down because leadership couldn’t trust them enough to handle things. They will make mistakes but allow them because they will learn from their mistakes.
Our daddies, let us trust these young brains to take up responsibility and FREELY lead in the organizing of church events. When I was youth leader, we would organize fun trips/excursions, games, music concerts, social seminars and oh boy. It is either there is a problem with our date or the minister we are inviting or there is no money. This excuse, that excuse, etc Sometimes the people want to foot the bill and sponsor their own event oo but PAPA will still find a way to douse their fire🥶😞 I have been billed for events in past times and seen these events being called off/cancelled at the last minute because Pastor said this or that, Area Head said this and that…blah blah blah! Sometimes or most times these organizers (largely the youth) will break down crying and apologizing for the inconvenience caused and I will end up consoling them and encouraging them not to relent!!
About #KARA – I am sure in any other COP setting, the BUDGET alone will scare off leadership to either abort or change a lot of things. We have a church building so why are you taking it to the national theatre? Why does publicity cost so much? Why this? Why that? Dear PAPAs, we must be willing to SPEND oo!
If you see the budget for some of these secular concerts coming up this December eh? If we don’t encourage our youth to organize events and support them to execute eh, they will end up at Afrochella and December to Remember something something oo. Hm!
But of truth, it costs MONEY to put these events together and all the things that come with it! Don’t say why do you need lights for a worship program? Daddy, we need the lights – It is part of our generation. Don’t say, “oh, but we can use our instruments like that”. No Daa, we will need to rent from 3T Soundz wae. Daa we beg😩🙌🏾😫 We cannot use the ‘everyday gunguron gunguron’ naa for this event. We have to rent sound.
You may not understand the ways of our generation but you need to trust us – Papa, it doesn’t mean we have gone off from the ‘tete atempɔm’ no oo. It is just the way of our generation. When the Pentecostal movement came up, we are told the orthodox churches frowned on some of our ways…surprised? It seems some of our PAPAs are also frowning on some of the ways of the Charismatic movement oo. I tell you, before we will ease our faces for the frowns to wear off, things would have gone too far and would need a lot of efforts for us to catch up! Charlie, “Chari” people don’t joke with their EVENTS oo. The investments they will pour into ICGC’s #GreaterWorks or Action’s #IMPACT eh. eshock u?
See, COP is peopled with a lot of resourceful young men and women with superb ideas who just need encouragement and support from our PAPAs to thrive. We want to see a COP event at the BlackStar Square, Heavy sound, serious stage light works, catchy advertising campaigns across all media networks with buzz and euphoria all over town. And there are young men and women who are ready and willing to work these out! If only our PAPAs will allow.
Apostle Chair says we have to REPOSITION THE CHURCH FOR MAXIMUM IMPACT! Please, let us reposition our mindset towards some of these things too. Especially organizing events in the church. LET US DO THESE AND MANY OTHER THINGS IN OUR BID TO POSSESS THE NATIONS!
ALLLOW!
Let those who know how to organize events do!
Let the right people who know publicity do!
Let pastors pastorate
Let apostles “apostolize”
Obiaa nni ne lane mu na Kristo adwuma yɛ no ɛne N’asɔre sie no bɛkɔ so. My senior brother Mark Opoku stated on Facebook not too long ago some key elements that make a good church and mentioned MUSIC. I side with him as if I am him! If we know how the extent music can go in spreading the message of the kingdom eh? PAPAnom, our choirs are one of our biggest assets in church building and would need all the attention including FUNDING to organize some of these church events… I am not by this letter positing my views as the ultimate idea. I may not have said many things right, may have stepped on few or many toes by this piece😊😊Fakyɛ Kwaku wae but Daa, please don’t ignore this letter.
Sɛ daakye bi me nya akwanya wɔ mpanimfoɔ anim a, mɛto me bo ase akyerɛkyerɛ me nsɛm mu yie! Hoping to SEE👀 favourably from you. Your own son Efo Kɔku! BRAA KWAKU
