In a recent conversation with Joshua Ahenkorah, a gospel artist based in Ghana, he shared insights about his newly released single titled “Arise.” ahead of his annual concert “Returning To Our First Love”. Written by Joshua himself, the song was officially released on the morning of July 3, 2023. The inspiration for the song came from the story of Moses and the Israelites, specifically when they faced a pursuing Egyptian army. Joshua connected this biblical account to the present-day realities of needing God’s intervention in our lives.
When asked about his songwriting process, Joshua revealed that he often receives messages from reading scriptures and through his day-to-day experiences. The songs drop into his spirit, sometimes during moments of reflection on life’s challenges.
“Arise” is a prayerful song for Joshua, where he calls upon the Lord to intervene in situations beyond his own strength. The message of the song emphasizes that God is the unchanging Ancient of Days, just as He was with Moses and the Israelites. No matter how dire the circumstances may seem, calling upon Him will bring an answer.
The response from the general public to “Arise” has been positive since its release. Joshua expressed the need for support from churches, music directors, fellow gospel artists, and the media. Encouraging churches to teach their choirs this song and for fellow artists to include it in their performances, he also urged the media to play the song and help share it with a wider audience.
Prior to “Arise,” Joshua’s last released songs were “Boa Me” and “Brood Over Me,” which had a double release on March 20 of this year. Additionally, Joshua shared that he hosts an annual concert called “Returning to Our First Love.” This event has been running since 2013 and takes place on the second Sunday of July in Obuasi. This year, they will be celebrating its 10th anniversary.
In his closing words, Joshua emphasized the importance of unity within the gospel and Christian music fraternity. He believes that supporting one another and patronizing our own talents is crucial for collective growth.
